You are embarking on an
emotional venture. Those of us who love and appreciate older cars
and trucks restore them for many reasons. Maybe we want to keep
fond family memories alive for generations to come and create new
memories. Or we’ve reached a stage in life where we can finally
live out the dreams of our youth. Or we want to make a statement
about ourselves. And many of us just love projects and the
restoration process to bring back to life a beautiful vehicle.
The cost of correctly hand-rebuilding a vehicle is usually unknown
to most people. Restorers rarely know of the unique problems a
vehicle presents until the restoration is well underway. Rarely is
restoration a smart financial decision. All other professional
restorers that I talk with agree that the cost for a commercial
professional restoration will undoubtedly exceed the market value of
the vehicle. All of us professional restorers will tell our clients
that they should do the work themselves if they have any
trepidations of their ability to complete the project or have a need
to save money by cutting corners.
If this statement that a
professional commercial restoration will cost you more money than
you are likely to ever get back in the market place is surprising to
you, then we must talk immediately. Now, before you start, is the
time to stop the restoration, not partway through the project when
you vehicle is un-drivable and un-presentable.
